The Learning Center provides support for a wide variety of learning and technology related worries to both staff and faculty members at LFS. Whether you’re new to LFS or have been with us for many years, the Learning Center is the best place to get started or find support on your UBC journey. General Services

Audio Visual Equipment Loans and Consultation

Are you looking to borrow audio or visual equipment like microphones, cameras, or adapters? We have a wide range of audio, visual, and hardware equipment available for loan to faculty and staff members. Additionally, we also provide training for any borrowed equipment. Our most borrowed items include lapel mics, USB-C docking adapters, HDMI adapters/cables, laptops, audio recorders, and our OWL meeting camera.

Device Upgrades and Setup

Are you thinking of purchasing new peripherals or upgrading existing devices? Not sure where to start?

Let us know and we can help you find the best device for you!

Software Support and Licensing

Having trouble with Office, Outlook, Zoom, etc.? We offer support for programs used across UBC LFS, as well as general troubleshooting.

Let us know what you’re having trouble with and we can help! Additionally, if you want to install a new program not listed in our software portal onto your LFS-provided device, please ask us to assist you.

Photography and Videography

Wanting to bring digital media into your class? Want to update your branding photos? Have other digital media ideas and want support in making them a reality? We’re able to film both in the classroom and on location (for field trips and workshops).

Let us know and our resident media producer Duncan McHugh would be happy to help!

Onboarding and Account Access

Hiring a new staff member or TA? Let us know and we can help you set up all required access to emails, accounts, etc.

If you are a new staff or faculty member at LFS, please reach out to us – we can get you set up with all account access you will need, as well as all the training and documentation you need to complete.

Online Survey and Data Analytics

Are you conducting an online survey or collecting data for research? We offer support for online survey design, as well as data analytics – let us know what you need!

Course Design

Are you looking to design a new course or redesign an existing course? We can meet with you to brainstorm ideas, identify funding opportunities, give you feedback on proposals, assist you with migrating content from other platforms, or reformat your content to increase accessibility and incorporate principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Teaching & Learning Technology

Want to enhance your teaching with new learning tools? We provide support for Canvas set-up and use, as well as documentation and support for other learning and teaching tools such as iClicker, Respondus LockDown Browser, Respondus Quiz authoring software, Zoom, Camtasia, and more.

If you are a new faculty member at LFS, please reach out to us – we can get you set up on Canvas and provide an overview of all other learning tools frequently used across UBC.

Instructional Video Production and Lecture Capture

Having trouble setting up hybrid lectures? Want to learn what the best practices are for teaching both in person and online at the same time? We provide set-up consultation and on-site support for hybrid lectures, just let us know!

If you are looking to create pre-recorded instructional videos to enhance your current course curriculum, reach out to us! The Learning Center houses a pop-up studio, equipped with a 4K camera, green screen, graphic tablet, and so much more. Unsure of what you want to use but have an idea for what you want to do with the studio? Let us know and we’ll be happy to help!

Community Engaged, Experiential Learning

Do you want to provide your students with opportunities to gain real world experience and get involved with their community? We can help you get started with incorporating community-based and experiential learning into your course, provide you with Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) templates for community partners, help you match students to projects using our matching system, and connect you with relevant central resources, such as the Centre for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) and UBC Community Engagement.
