ARC (Advanced Research Computing) is a free service supporting the high-performance computing and data management needs of UBC researchers.  Along with national partner, Compute Canada, ARC offers services for large data projects requiring massive high performance computational power for which standard computing infrastructure like desktop and laptop computers are not able to handle the processing.  ARC’s services are open to all disciplines and faculties, including Land and Food Systems.

This information session is organized as an introduction to UBC ARC (Advanced Research Computing) and Compute Canada. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the services ARC offers and how to apply to use their computing services.

For more information about ARC at UBC, please visit arc.ubc.ca.

Megan Meredith-Lobay is the Research Specialist for Humanities and Social Sciences at UBC Advanced Research Computing. In addition, Megan serves on the Compute Canada Humanities and Social Sciences National Team. She has worked at the University of Alberta where she supported research computing for the Faculty of Arts, and at the University of Oxford where she was the programme coordinator for Digital Social Research, an Economic and Social Research Council project to promote advanced ICT in Social Science research. Megan holds a PhD in archaeology and has a background in using GIS for exploring ritual early medieval landscapes.

Jerry Li received the Bachelor of Biological Science and Ph.D of Genetics in Fudan Unviersity, Shanghai, China, before came to Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Simon Fraser University, as post-doc in genomics and bioinformatics for four years, under the supervision of Dr. Jack Chen. Before joining ARC team, he worked as an assistant professor in Shanghai University, the lecturer in SFU, and the group leader of Next-Generation Sequencing in Applied Biological Materials Inc. in the past three years.
