Calls for Letters of Intent for Large Teaching & Learning Enhancement Fund Projects (2022-23)
The Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver, invites faculty and staff to submit Letters of Intent (LOI) for Large Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) Transformation projects. The deadline is 3:00 pm on July 15, 2021.
About Large TLEF Transformation projects
Large TLEF Transformation projects are multi-year projects that are intended to advance UBC’s strategic goals relating to transformative learning. Projects are eligible to receive up to $250,000 in funding. Typically, these projects impact multiple courses or programs, have the potential to involve collaboration across departments or Faculties, and align with one or more strategies or priorities in UBC’s strategic plan: Shaping UBC’s Next Century.
LFS internal review process
At LFS, we will continue our traditions of having an internal review process to help improve the final submissions. If you would like to receive feedback and suggestions from the internal review committee, please submit your draft Letter of Intent to Judy Chan (judy.chan@ubc.ca) by Wednesday, June 30, at 3:00 pm. We aim to offer feedback soon after.

UBC application process
Project submissions will go through a two-stage approval process. Successful applicants in the LOI stage will be invited to submit a full proposal that is due October 14, 2021.

Call for Proposals for Small Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) Innovation Projects
About Small TLEF Projects
Small TLEF innovation projects are grassroots projects that are intended to support experimentation with pedagogical approaches that have strong potential to enhance learning. These projects should also align with UBC’s strategic priorities relating to transformative learning, but they are typically smaller in scope and scale, and may involve more experimentation and exploration of new and emerging approaches to support learning.
Small TLEF Innovation projects can request up to $50,000 over the life of the project, and can run from one to three years. Funding for the 2nd and/or 3rd years of multi-year projects is contingent upon satisfactory progress in meeting project goals.
LFS Internal Review Process
A LFS internal review process is available to offer feedback to project teams. Please submit your small TLEF proposals in Word format by Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 3:00 pm (more details on how to submit this will be available once the official call is available). We aim to offer feedback in a week to meet the campus wide deadline on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 3:00 pm.
The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) will offer a general TLEF information session on Thursday, September 26, 12 noon to 1 pm, as well as weekly drop-in sessions for applicants who would like to receive support in preparing their TLEF proposals. Call LFS Internal Review Committee Members!
We would like to invite members of the LFS teaching and learning community to join us on the LFS Internal Review Committee to review proposals and offer feedback. The estimate time committee is roughly:
- Soon after November 4: Two hours of review – roughly 20 to 30 minutes for each proposal and we typically receive 3 to 5 proposals a year
- Early November: an 1-hour meeting to offer your feedback
- Late November: Two hours of review of the final and possibly improved proposals
- Late November: an 1-hour meeting to rank the proposals
