A message from the UBC Library.
Dear Faculty and Instructors,
We would like to share some information to ensure a good start of your Summer 2020 courses.
You may use the Syllabus Service to submit your reading list directly to UBC Library so we can add your readings and other learning resources[1] to the Library Online Course Reserves (LOCR) system, which is integrated with Canvas.
Faculty and instructors who prefer the self-serve model may continue to manually input course reserves requests into LOCR. However, the new Syllabus Service provides a complementary full-service option that relieves users of the need to enter bibliographic data into the system. Both services ensure that readings and other learning resources are made available to students while respecting Canadian copyright law and existing UBC licensing agreements and policies.
How to submit a reading list?
Simply submit your reading list directly into LOCR or email a copy of it to syllabus.service@ubc.ca as a Microsoft Word document or PDF.
We expect a basic reading list to include the following information:
- The course name and course code
- Your name and contact information
- Full citations for works, including page numbers where applicable
If you have PDFs of the course materials please share them with us via syllabus.service@ubc.ca or Workspace this will expedite the process.
Processing Timelines
While most readings can be cleared in a matter of days, acquiring permissions from some publishers can be a lengthy process and, in some cases, may take several weeks. To ensure that the course material is available to students on time, please submit your syllabus as soon as you can.
Instructors may continue to submit reading lists at any time. Materials will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Course Material is Ready
You and your students can access course material either through the standalone LOCR site, or via the Library Online Course Reserves (LOCR) link in the Canvas course shell.
LOCR will also generate a direct link to your course material in “Instructor Mode.” You may share this link with your students any way you like (email, blog, LMS), as it will work only for enrolled students for that particular course.
If you have any questions, or need more information about the service, please contact us at syllabus.service@ubc.ca [mailto:syllabus.service@ubc.ca]
Best regards,
