Our next session will be held on Friday, April 14 at noon. Ken Bigelow (ARC System Administrator) will lead the session this week.
Researchers are venturing more and more into the use of cloud computing and commercial cloud vendors. Many of these researchers are new to system administration and managing cloud services, which can make it difficult to get started.
Over the last few years, the UBC’s Advanced Research Computing (ARC) team has explored various cloud platforms and solutions to help researchers harness the power of the public cloud and enhance their computing capabilities. UBC transitioned to the RONIN Platform in 2020, becoming the first university in North America using RONIN as a full-service cloud offering.
Ken Bigelow, ARC Systems Administrator, will talk to us about what ARC is and the role it plays at UBC, the researcher community it’s a part of, and the challenges that arise with cloud computing. We will share our experience with RONIN and demonstrate a live demo of what a researcher just starting out will experience, and what it takes to setup their workflow in a cloud environment. Come join us and find out how we did it!
