Lunch & Learn Series: Reviewing your Remote Work Setup with Duncan McHugh

November 24, 2020

This session was held on Friday, November 27th, 2020 at noon.

With many more months of remote work ahead of us, the Learning Centre thought now would be a good time to reflect on what works and what doesn’t work when working from home. Feel free to share your successes and challenges with the group. We will give you some ideas for equipment that you can get to help out, some of which may be covered by the $400 remote work equipment fund recently announced. Also, Duncan McHugh will lead a discussion about ergo considerations in your home office.

Join this session to get some useful insights and to discuss your home office setup. Want to show off your workspace? Send a photo to duncan.mchugh@ubc.ca and you can tell us about it on Friday.

Post-Event Notes:

We’re likely to be working from home for many more months. Duncan took this workshop to remind attendees of some of the resources available to them.

The Learning Centre made a number of recommendations for home setup. Depending on your budget and expectations, there are many ways to improve your home office.

A big part of working from home is taking care of ourselves. Ergonomics can be a challenge when we are set up at kitchen tables and in living rooms.

One thing Duncan emphasized is need for movement throughout the day, which can mitigate the effects of sitting for long periods of time. Taking a moment to stretch, using a movement reminder and fitting in short exercises can help increase energy and prevent chronic injuries.
